WLA Gives Recognition to Svenska Spel

The World Lottery Association (WLA) recognised Sweden’s State-owned Svenska Spel gambling monopoly for its commitment to responsible gaming at its conference in Rhodes last week.
The WLA is a members-based organisation committed to advancing the interests of State-authorised lotteries and presented Svenska Spel with its Award For Responsible Gaming Excellence as the world’s leading gaming monopoly.
“It is fantastic and a major recognition for the responsible work we pursue and invest heavily in its continued development,” said Anders Hagg, Acting Chief Executive Officer for Svenska Spel.
At the WLA’s previous conference in Singapore in 2006, the group took the decision to establish a prize to encourage the industry’s work with responsible gaming. The prize is presented to the monopoly among the organisation’s members that represents ‘best practice’ within the area of responsible gaming.
”Our brief from the Government clearly points out social responsibility as the main purpose of Svenska Spel’s operation,” said Margareta Winberg, Chairman for Svenska Spel.
“This is why it obviously feels great that independent international experts have verified that we are currently leading the development in this important area. It is a major recognition and an incentive for us to become even better.”
Svenska Spel also won the award for the ‘best training programme for gaming agent/retailer’ sub-category with Mike Randall, Chairman for the deciding jury, stated that the Stockholm-based operator ‘overall shows first-class behaviour in the area of responsible gaming’.
